Vanzara, Pandian narco tests postponed (06 May 2008)
Narco tests on two suspended IPS officers - Deputy Inspector General of Police D G Vanzara and Superintendent of Police Rajkumar Pandian, accused in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, have been postponed and new dates will soon be announced.
Self Employment Scheme for Rehabilitation of Manual Scavengers: 100 crore provided in 2008-09 (05 May 2008)
The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment has formulated Self Employment Scheme for Rehabilitation of Manual Scavengers w.e.f. January, 2007. The scheme provides for training, capital subsidy and concessional loan for rehabilitation of manual scavengers and their dependents. A provision of Rs. 100.00 crore has been provided under the scheme for the year 2008-09.

No discussion on new methods to determine poverty line (17 Apr 2008)
The Planning Commission estimates the incidence of poverty at National and State level form the large sample survey on household consumer expenditure conducted by the National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO) following the methodology contained in the Report of the Expert Group on Estimation of proportion and Number of Poor. No communication has been received in the Planning Commission form the state with the demand to determine the formula for measuring poverty afresh.
Madurai bench calls for confidential monitoring of sexual abuse in schools (17 Apr 2008)
The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has called for setting up of a confidential and an independent monitoring system in government and private schools in Tamil Nadu to curb sexual abuse and harassment of girl students.
